The approach is designed to improve cell survival, support tissue repair, and ultimately improve continence outcomes for patients living with this challenging condition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><br \/>Each patient pathway begins with a muscle biopsy to collect the cells needed to manufacture the personalised therapy. These cells are then processed and prepared for implantation, before being delivered back to the patient at one of the participating clinical sites.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><br \/>The treatment of these six patients represents a key milestone in the translation of AMELIE from laboratory development into clinical practice. The team at The Royal London Hospital implanted healthy muscle cells attached to microscopic beads in humans for the first time. The study aims to treat faecal incontinence caused by childbirth injury.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The first patients had been biopsied two weeks prior to this in Cardiff at the University Hospital of Wales.<\/p>\n<p>These are important milestones for the progression of this groundbreaking treatment.
