The event featured three sessions on diverticular disease, the gut microbiome, and surgical &amp; interventional science. &nbsp; Professor Richard Day presented an overview of the AMELIE project, and was followed by AMELIE patient representative Sarah Laws, who described her experience of robotic surgery. &nbsp; The video of the full event is available on YouTube, with the AMELIE presentation starting at 2 hours and 15 minutes. It can severely impact the mental health of patients who cannot control their bowels, as most of the current treatments are ineffective, causing an unmet therapeutic need. Current surgical treatment of sphincter repair doesn\u2019t address the nerve damage that results in the muscle which is essential to allow patients to control their bowels \u201cWe need to be restoring the function of the anal sphincter not just atomically pulling it back together\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>\u201cThe AMELIE proposal is unique, no one has done it before\u201d.
