Tilstanden p\u00e5virker patienternes livskvalitet og har negative socio\u00f8konomiske og milj\u00f8m\u00e6ssige konsekvenser for samfundet. De nuv\u00e6rende retningslinjer for patientbehandling anbefaler en trinvis tilgang til behandling af aff\u00f8ringsinkontinens, fra konservative behandlingsmuligheder over minimalt invasive kirurgiske muligheder til f\u00f8rste- og andenlinjekirurgiske muligheder. Desv\u00e6rre er de konservative behandlinger stadig ineffektive, og i mange tilf\u00e6lde er de kirurgiske muligheder enten ikke \u00f8nskv\u00e6rdige eller ikke egnede. Regenerativ medicin, og specifikt celleterapi, har potentialet til at tilbyde en helbredende behandling, der er mindre invasiv og mere effektiv. Selv om celleterapiteknologier stadig er under udvikling, kan de forbedre den nuv\u00e6rende situation inden for aff\u00f8ringsinkontinens p\u00e5 det kliniske, patientm\u00e6ssige og socio\u00f8konomiske niveau. Form\u00e5let med denne artikel er todelt. For det f\u00f8rste er det at skabe opm\u00e6rksomhed om den tavse lidelse, som aff\u00f8ringsinkontinens er, og om den indvirkning, den har p\u00e5 patienter og samfund. The condition impacts the patients\u2019 quality of life and has negative socio-economic and environmental impact on the society. Current patient management guidelines recommend a stepwise approach to treating fecal incontinence, from conservative treatment options, through minimally invasive surgical options, all the way to first- and second-line surgical options. Unfortunately, the conservative treatments remain ineffective, and, in many cases, the surgical options are either not desirable or not suitable. Regenerative medicine, and specifically, cell therapy, has the potential to offer a curative treatment that is less invasive, more effective and efficient. Cell therapy technologies, while still under development, can improve the current state-of-play in the realm of fecal incontinence at the clinical, patient, and socio-economic level.
